Přemysl Krajčovič: After 18 years in software development, I know exactly what I want from the people on my team

An interview with Přemysl Krajčovič, CTO of Devcity, about the biggest projects, working with the public sector and building strong senior teams.

We were looking forward to talking with Přemysl Krajčovič, CTO of Devcity, for two reasons. In his role he oversees the company's biggest projects and is also responsible for its technology direction.

Hi Přema, you have been with the company for three years. You joined Devcity from NOTINO, where you led development. What motivated you to move to Devcity?

For me, Devcity represented a highly professional software house without the burden of a corporate environment. That is exactly what appealed to me. Over the last few years we have managed to build a truly high-quality team of experienced people.

At Devcity you oversee the largest client projects. Is there a type of project you enjoy the most?

I don't have one specific preference. On one hand we work with a large e-commerce client whose services are known to practically everyone. It's great to be part of developing systems used by millions of people.

On the other hand, I also enjoy projects where we design modern architectures and help clients adopt new technologies.

The most important thing, however, is always to deliver a working solution.

You have many years of experience from large corporations. What do you see as Devcity's main advantage?

Large companies benefit from their size. They can afford to run huge projects. A mid-sized company like Devcity has to build its capability on experienced people.

That is exactly what we have achieved. Today we have a strong team of senior specialists, and I am convinced that we are ready to deliver even the largest projects.

The public sector is a big topic today. Does Devcity want to focus more on this area?

Yes. We already work with major private companies and public administration institutions, for example with the Czech Statistical Office.

The biggest problem with public tenders, however, is often not the technology itself. It is the way requirements are defined. The public sector usually describes a specific solution instead of the actual problem that needs to be solved.

In the private sector, clients look for a working solution. In my opinion, that is the right approach.

Would Devcity be able to handle, for example, the digitalisation of the building permit process?

Absolutely.

Over the past eighteen years in software development, hundreds of developers, architects and technical specialists have passed through my hands. I know exactly what people I need on a team and how to build such a team.

That is precisely why I am convinced that we have the experience, the know-how and the capacity to deliver even very large projects.
