Since 2019, you've been living in London. How did your collaboration with DEVCITY begin?

That's right, in 2019 I decided to go abroad, and I randomly chose London. At that time, I was working on my own project, which was still in its early stages, so I was looking for a part-time job. I saw Tomáš on LinkedIn, and we started chatting. We wrote to each other, and although the collaboration didn’t work out at first, Tomáš reached out to me a month later with an interesting project.

You’ve been working at DEVCITY for over four years. How many projects have you been involved in?

I worked part-time at DEVCITY for a while, and then, when my own project ended, I started working for the company full-time. Over the years, I’d say I’ve worked on about three projects. Each project was different from the others, and each had its own interesting aspects.

As part of our conversations, we aim to understand the real perceptions of the company, so I’ll ask you directly: What are the positive aspects you’ve noticed during your long-term collaboration with DEVCITY?

I could probably mention a lot of things, but what first comes to mind is the atmosphere in the company. I work full-time and 100% remotely, but I never intended to work for a corporation or be a typical employee. And that's what DEVCITY has given me—I'm not part of a corporate company, nor do I feel like an employee stuck in some kind of hierarchical structure.

So, should I understand that the company atmosphere is what you value the most?

Yes and no. The company’s biggest strength is that it has remained the same at its core since the beginning. We collaborate on various projects, and in IT outsourcing, our clients are large corporations. Many processes have changed, and there are more of us now, but DEVCITY, at its core, is still a group of developers. Thanks to working with DEVCITY, I’ve been able to work on projects and reach positions that would have taken me ten years to achieve in large corporations.

Bodyshopping is now an integral part of development. Why do you think it still has a negative reputation?

From my perspective, it's an essential part and, for me, actually an opportunity. On the other hand, I can’t imagine being part of some agency-based bodyshopping setup. DEVCITY built its approach differently from the start. The experience of the guys who had led development teams for years, and the fact that DEVCITY is essentially made up entirely of developers, gives us a very different approach to outsourcing. The company understands the needs of clients much better and also understands developers much more.

Will you continue living in London, or will you return to the Czech Republic?

With DEVCITY, I can work from anywhere in the world. So it will depend on the situation and how I feel. For now, London is my home. I don’t see my work at the company as just a job; I see it as us working on projects together.
